Gay rights

Motion on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender persons rights:

Presented by HSF Norway

Acknowledging that Europe is considered a modern society,

Observing that the EU member states cooperate on financial issues and discuss common values,

Noting that issues concerning gay rights in some of the EU countries are not being addressed, and that same-sex relationships are yet to be recognized by the European Union,

Viewing that in Estonia, Latvia, the Faroe-Islands, Lithuania, Monaco, Poland, Slovakia, Albania, Armenia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Italy and Greece, same-sex relationships are still not recognized by law,

And, viewing that many of the above mentioned countries are lacking anti-discrimination legislation, legalization for same-sex marriage and the opportunity to serve openly in the army,

We, the European Democrat Students (EDS), the official student organization of the European People’s Party (EPP),

Call on all the member states of the EPP to recognize the rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people by:

- recognition of same-sex relationships

- anti-discrimination legislation for gay people.

- the right of same-sex marriage by law

- the right of adoption by same-sex parents by law

- the right to serve openly as gay in the military by law
